The Property
A rustic cottage, quiet campsites and a little room to slow down. MEG’s shared property at Wartook is a simple base for time in the Grampians/Gariwerd region, cared for by generations of members.
The cottage
There are three bedrooms: two with double beds and a bunkroom with four beds. The kitchen, living room, dining room, laundry and bathroom are shared, along with a separate toilet block. Campers use these facilities too.
There’s no electricity connection. Bring a torch, your bedding and supplies, and enjoy being a little less plugged in. The wood-fired water heater provides hot water; ask for a demonstration before using it.
Camping in the bush
Bring your tent or caravan and settle into one of the designated camping areas. There are water taps near the campsites, with shared facilities close by. Take care around trees and dead limbs, and help protect the plantings.
All stays are arranged in advance through MEG’s member booking process.
What to bring
Pack bedding, food, personal supplies, medicines, a torch and rubbish bags, plus your camping equipment if you’re camping.
Our rainwater is not tested. Please bring bottled or other known-safe water for drinking, preparing food and brushing your teeth. Take rubbish and food scraps home, and leave the shared spaces ready for the next visitors.
Time outdoors
The property sits beside the Mackenzie River reserve, with bush and mountain scenery close by. You can spend a quiet day here or explore the wider Gariwerd region. Check current park access, weather and fire conditions before your visit, and supervise children around the river.
Cared for together
Working bees, planting, weeding and shared upkeep keep MEG going. A little care during each stay matters too: conserve water, look after the bush and let a Director know when something needs attention.
If you’re considering membership, we’re happy to talk through the facilities and what being part of MEG involves.
