A special place,
cared for together.

MEG is a member-run conservation cooperative at Wartook, in the Grampians/Gariwerd region. We care for the land, enjoy time outdoors and share in a community.

Conservation is a shared effort.

Working bees, planting and shared upkeep help keep MEG’s property a place for members to enjoy.

Our story began in 1971

MEG began when Rodger Elliot AM and Gwen Elliot AM, members of the Montrose Environmental Group, found a property near Wartook. What started as a plan to grow banksias became something much bigger: a cooperative built around caring for the land.

With founding president Ron Taylor and a community of keen volunteers, members restored the cottage and began bringing life back to overgrazed farmland. Planting, weeding and looking after the property have continued across generations.

Today, our members come together to keep that work going—and enjoy a special part of the Grampians/Gariwerd region along the way.
